Dr. Mallaree Blake has her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, a Masters in Mental Health Counseling, as well as a Bachelors in sociology and psychology. I have felt for a long time that this conversation around safe sex and sexually transmitted infections was important for our community to be informed of because things change often in modern dating!
A few of the questions we answer in today’s episode are “How do we disclose if we have an STI?”.
Dr. Blake believes that shame, fear of rejection or abandonment, as well as societal expectations that challenge aspects of who they are is what holds them back in a relationship. One’s lack of understanding or knowing their sense of self and other mental health challenges that make them vulnerable also hold them back when seeking out a new partnership!
Her mission in her business is full of supporting individuals, couples, and communities in healing, strengthening, and transforming their sense of self, relationships, and beyond!
My biggest takeaways from our sensitive conversation today were….
1 out of 2 people will get an STI by the age of 25 if they are sexually active.
There are many local free testing centers available to get tested often.
We lay out a script for disclosing an infection with our partner because some people are asymptomatic and do not realize they have an STI.
When it comes to challenging the definition of monogamy, mutual enthusiasm for an consensual non-monogamous relationship. Meaning both partners need to be on board!
