Its normal to have the people close to you push your buttons! On this week’s episode of the podcast, I share the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in your relationship when you are having conflict with your partner.
They are defensiveness, stonewalling, criticism, and contempt. If you’ve ever been in a long term relationship, you know you will come across some kind of conflict with your partner.
I know that I have experienced all four of these major relationship killers before and in many different ways. I’ve gotten defensive when I felt as if someone was criticizing me, using a number of “you always do this” statements. I know that I have stonewalled my partners in the past when they have become defensive with me. What I do believe is that anyone can change if they want it badly enough. I personally have seen so much change in myself since I hit rock bottom and decided to make a number of changes in my life, starting with reaching out to a counselor for support.Conflict can also help you grow closer to your partner because it opens up an opportunity to repair any wrongdoing. I want to walk you through a couple of personal experiences of my own from the past couple years looking for a partner while dating in the modern world.
While doing so, I hope to show you the warning signs of bad conflict behaviors and share the antidotes to them at the same time!
