As Maya Angelou once said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

I would have to agree with this! I have said the wrong thing many times early on in my business and even more recently as a father and friend.  What kind of leader would I pretend to be if I didn’t admit this fault to you?

The truer mistake would be to if I chose to ignore the lesson in front of me and refuse to learn from them. Because I coach clients and trainers through as much of their life as I do fitness, nutrition, and business, then I must lead the community from the front with extreme ownership. Especially in my own actions and behaviors.

Often, I find myself forgetting to follow my own advice to reach my goals.

Every coach needs a coach, don’t they?  Or more than likely we need a band of brothers to hold each other accountable to be the best men we can be!

Over a year ago, I joined Colorado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu West to be coached, developed, taught, and to pushed beyond my comfort zone. What I forgot to do was to listen more than I speak, take with me the valuable lessons I’m taught, and to apply them to my own life in order to fight my false beliefs.

As I finish setting goals for 2018, the more personal I get with them… the better. The more transparent I am with them… the better. The simpler I make them… the better.

My 2018 goals include:

1. $1.2 million in revenue for Fit Life Champions
2. Read thirty books on Leadership, business development, and personal growth
3. Begin each day by writing in a journal for 5 minutes
4. Earn debt freedom by July 12
5. Earn time freedom by July 12
6. Impact 30 Personal Trainers businesses who coach 35 clients each so that they themselves add #4,5 & 6 to their list of goals
7. Earn my blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu and compete twice in local tournaments (earned my Blue Belt Dec. 12, 2017)
8. Attend every school event, family invitation and opportunity Madison presents and earns with grades and behavior

9. Learn to play the guitar

10. Learn to speak Spanish

I’m seeking five men that want to hold each other accountable to make a major difference in their lives. I’m looking for five men that want to get real, be pushed, and be led down a path of growth. In mindset. In commitment. In their lives to impact others.

To give you a quick idea of the concept of the book, Howes talks about the nine different masks we wear as men.  “Masculinity is not about being the biggest, the fastest, the strongest, the one who sleeps with the most girls, and the one who has the most money. The one who has the most accomplishments is not the most masculine. In fact, it is often the men who covet these things most who are covering and compensating for the greatest insecurities. Let us revere the one who loves others deeply, loves himself deeply, and has a dream that he is inspired to live with and by and through. He is a man.”
